Pipeline and Refinery Flange Supply for Oil and Gas
Pipeline mainline, compressor and pump stations, and refinery process units cover the bulk of oil and gas flange demand. A105 carbon, A350 LF2 low temp, and F11 and F22 chrome-moly carry the line list, with NACE MR0175 sour service certification on the alloy side.
Industry Overview
How Oil & Gas Piping Actually Looks
Midstream pipeline work is large diameter, high yield, and built around MSS SP-44 weld neck flanges in A694 grades F42 through F70. These mate the X42 through X70 line pipe that carries crude, gas, and product across the continent. Class 600 and 900 are common, with Class 150 and 300 returning at station tie-ins and lower pressure laterals.
Refinery process piping is a different specification mix. A105 carbon dominates the lower temperature service. F11 and F22 chrome-moly show up at hydroprocessing, FCC, and crude unit hot lines. Stainless F304L and F316L cover corrosive intermediate service. Class 150 through 1500 weld necks and blinds carry most of the load.
We stock and source for both sides of the business. Forged carbon and chrome-moly for refinery turnarounds, plus plate-cut flanges where larger diameters or AWWA-style stations need them. The forged plus plate distinction matters when the project mixes ASME B16.5 process piping with utility cooling water on the same purchase order.

Material Selection
Common Materials and Why
ASTM A105
Workhorse forged carbon steel for sweet service at moderate temperature. Lowest cost and broadest stocking depth.
ASTM A350 LF2
Low temperature carbon for cold weather pipeline service and impact tested applications down to minus 50 F.
ASTM A694 F52 to F70
High yield pipeline grades that match X52 through X70 line pipe at MSS SP-44 specifications.
ASTM A182 F11 and F22
Chrome-moly for high temperature hydroprocessing, sour service per NACE MR0175, and refinery hot lines.
ASTM A182 F304L and F316L
Stainless for corrosive intermediate and product streams where carbon would pit out fast.
Industry Challenges
What Procurement Has to Solve
- 01
Sour service certification under NACE MR0175 with hardness limits and full PMI documentation.
- 02
High yield pipeline material matching where flange grade has to track the line pipe X-grade exactly.
- 03
Refinery turnaround windows that compress delivery on chrome-moly and stainless to a handful of weeks.
- 04
Charpy impact testing for cold service pipelines crossing northern terrain.
